The Rachel Carson Homestead is located in the Pittsburgh suburb of Springdale, approximately 1/2 hour from downtown Pittsburgh.

From PA Route 28
  • Follow Rt. 28 to Harmarville exit (exit #11)
  • From Rt. 28 traveling north, turn right onto Rt. 910; from Rt. 28 traveling south, turn left at the stop sign onto Rt. 910
  • Turn left at "T" intersection onto Freeport Road
  • Follow Freeport Road for approximately 3.5 miles through Cheswick into Springdale (turns into Pittsburgh Street)
  • Turn left onto Colfax Street at the first light in Springdale (by Maggie's Bed & Breakfast with church on opposite corner)
  • Follow Colfax Street up the hill (6 blocks); before the crest, turn right onto Marion Avenue
  • Homestead is on the left at 613 Marion Avenue
From the Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA 76)
  • Follow PA Turnpike to Allegheny Valley exit (exit #48)
  • Follow signs for Cheswick/Springdale (left lane)
  • Follow Freeport Road for approximately 2.5 miles through Cheswick into Springdale (turns into Pittsburgh Street)
  • Turn left onto Colfax Street at the first light in Springdale (by Maggie's Bed & Breakfast with church on opposite corner)
  • Follow Colfax Street up the hill (6 blocks); before the crest, turn right onto Marion Avenue
  • Homestead is on the left at 613 Marion Avenue

  • There is free street parking along Marion Avenue
